- A clinical trial at Duke has used the polio virus to fight glioblastomas. In this trial, a modified polio virus is injected into the tumor. 2 of the patients in the trial have been declared cancer-free and 11 have died. The researchers now are working to find the correct dosage to inject.
- The modified polio virus (PVS-RIPO) destroys the glioma cell. And this causes an immune response that flags and kills other tumor cells.
